Full Job Description

Waypoint Academy, a coed residential treatment center specializing in treating adolescents ages 13-18 with anxiety, depression, and OCD is seeking Youth Mentors to join our team. We are located in Huntsville and are open year-round. As a Youth Mentor, you will have the opportunity to assist our students, helping them to develop new skills, advance their personal growth and make a positive impact in their lives. You will be part of a supportive team of experienced professionals, both clinical and academic, who are committed to helping adolescents heal mentally, physically, and emotionally. Waypoint Academy combines the power of traditional and experiential therapies to create a clinically sophisticated, relationship-based setting that promotes growth and healing.

Youth Mentor Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the students' daily routines, activities and chores.
  • Attend and facilitate group therapy sessions and outdoor recreational activities.
  • Assist students with their academic and extracurricular goals.
  • Help manage and document behavioral, emotional and social issues and progress.
  • Provide support to students and their families.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for the students.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students, and respond to emergencies as needed
  • Collaborate with other professionals as part of the treatment team.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to maintain a high standard of care for students

Part time or Full time hours | $16-19/hour DOE

Morning Shifts:

Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 7am-3pm + 2 Sundays a month 7am-3pm

Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday 7am-3pm + 2 Sundays a month 7am-3pm

Swing Shifts:
Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 2:30-11pm + 2 Sundays a month 2:30-11pm

Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday 2:30-11pm + 2 Sundays a month 2:30-11pm

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be able to demonstrate flexibility, patience, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to respond effectively and efficiently in crisis situations
  • Passionate about working with young people and helping them to achieve their full potential.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field (such as social work, psychology, or counseling) is preferred but not required
  • Experience working with teenagers or in a related field is preferred
  • Must be able to pass motor vehicle record check
  • First Aid & CPR certified (we may provide)
