Arena is a global investment management firm that seeks to generate attractive risk adjusted, consistent and uncorrelated returns by employing a fundamental based, asset-oriented financing and investing strategy across the entire credit spectrum in areas where conventional sources of capital are scarce.
Arena specializes in off-the-run, stressed, distressed, illiquid and esoteric special situation transactions through originations and acquisitions of asset-oriented investments across a wide array of asset types (including but not limited to private direct corporate credit, commercial real estate bridge lending, and commercial and consumer assets).
Quaestor Advisors, LLC (“Quaestor”) is an affiliated Special Servicer, which provides mid and back office services, including asset management, to Arena Investors and external clients.
Quaestor is looking to expand the Asset Management team, through the addition of a VP/SVP. To oversee all aspects of the investment valuation process, under the direction of the Head of Asset Management based in New York. The Asset Management Group’s primary responsibilities include asset valuation, portfolio surveillance, and maximization of return for the firm’s investment portfolio. Ideal candidates will be organized, self-motivated, resourceful, and be able to work effectively with all internal groups.
Job responsibilities:
• Oversee all aspects of Arena’s Valuation Process.
The process includes:
• Being the senior advisor regarding valuation subjects for the firm, providing insights and advice regarding the appropriate approach to valuing complex, illiquid, investments.
• Working directly with asset managers and analysts in New York, Jacksonville, Dublin, Bengaluru, Singapore, and Auckland, managing the production process of valuations for over 150 investments monthly.
• Manage the hiring, oversite, and value reconciliation process with 3rd-Party valuation providers.
• Oversee the scheduling of all related regularly-scheduled and ad-hoc meetings of the valuation committee.
• Must be a “Player Coach”, with personal responsibility for modeling and valuing complicated assets, while overseeing and training team members and support analysts.
• Extensive interface with Finance and Operations teams.
• Will work with the Managing Director Asset Management to build out the team over time as the asset base grows.
Requirements
The individual will have demonstrated an ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment with an ability to think broadly about the business, incorporating continual improvement of processes and procedures with a goal of excellence while focusing on accuracy and efficiency.
•Bachelor’s degree from a top university, ideally in a quantitative area (e.g., finance, economics, accounting).
•12 - 15 years industry experience, ideally in valuing illiquid and alternative credit investment. Such experience likely obtained at an accounting firm, valuation firm, or within an illiquid credit fund operation.
•Strong fundamental credit skills helpful, likely developed in a commercial bank, credit company, or BDC.
•Exposure to complicated structured illiquid credit transactions optimal.
•Ability to train juniors in model development and in the preparation of valuations.
•Strong excel and modeling skills.
•Understanding of basic risk management approaches helpful.
•The highest level of personal integrity and ethical standards.
•A positive attitude, strong work ethic and a desire to work collaboratively across the organization.
