Full Job Description
Do you dream in debits and credits? Are you the Sherlock Holmes of financial clean-ups? Do you laugh at cheesy accounting jokes like “It’s accrual world”? Then you might just be our next Senior Accounting Specialist! OTA is looking for a US-based remote Senior Accounting Specialist to join our lively (and slightly punny) team.
What’s the Gig?
We need a financial wizard who’s ready to handle the complex stuff—think job costing, inventory management, and accrual accounting for construction and manufacturing clients. You’ll dive into the nitty-gritty of our clients’ finances while working with our fun-loving team to make magic happen.
Your Superpowers Include:
Client Clean-Ups & Complex Accounting
Tackle neglected or incorrect financials with precision and flair.
Rebuild charts of accounts like a pro and address historical inaccuracies with Sherlock-like detective skills.
Handle full-cycle AP/AR, progress billing, and accrual accounting like the boss you are.
Operational Mastery
Manage transactions and reconciliations with grace, ensuring clients' books are always spotless.
Support job costing, inventory tracking, and other advanced accounting functions without breaking a sweat.
Use tools and tech (like QBO and possibly Xero) to keep workflows efficient and accurate.
Client Whisperer
Be the go-to guru for client questions and emails, fostering great relationships.
Communicate complex financial concepts in ways that clients actually understand (no jargon overloading).
Support Team Leads with the information they need to shine during monthly client meetings.
Team Player Extraordinaire
Share your knowledge freely, mentoring others in our team-first, values-driven environment.
Collaborate with our jovial crew to improve processes and create a seamless accounting experience.
Contribute to the OTA vibe—where “Appreciation of Humor” is just as important as balancing the books.
Must-Have Skills:
Accounting Experience: You’ve been in the trenches for at least 5+ years and know your way around complex books.
While a lot more boring you should feel like you can do these tasks in your sleep
Record transactions to client’s QuickBooks Online via bank feeds or manual entry
Enter end of month closing journal entries
Prepare first draft of monthly financial statements for supervisor review
Prepare client records for issuing 1099’s upon request
Assist team members with client projects as needed
Maintain a high level of organization by using Outlook calendar and saving documents electronically in a ShareFile folder whenever possible. Paper files may temporarily be saved on a very limited basis.
Participate in daily huddles, monthly team meetings as well as occasional client meetings
Certification Savvy: QBO ProAdvisor certification required (or willing to get certified in the first 3 months). Xero experience is a big plus!
Tech Wizardry: Comfortable using cloud-based tools and learning new ones—automation doesn’t scare you; it excites you.
Detail-Oriented: You catch things others miss and make sure nothing slips through the cracks.
Sense of Humor: You’re cool with a team that laughs a lot (even if the jokes are more “dad” than “stand-up”).
What We Offer:
Pay: $24–$28/hour, depending on your experience and certifications.
Benefits:
Simple IRA with up to a 3% company match.
Health insurance stipend (for full-time employees).
Work-from-home technology stipend.
2 weeks PTO + 9 company holidays.
Flexibility: 20–40 hours per week. Work when it works for you, as long as you're meeting client deadlines and participate in team huddles
