Position Summary
We are looking for a builder and sustainer. Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Senior Development Specialist will utilize their strong relationship-building skills to identify, cultivate, secure and retain individual financial support with a focus on building and sustaining our mid-level donors. The Senior Development Specialist’s portfolio will comprise annual donors with a potential to qualify to elevate to mid-level and existing mid-level donors for retention and elevation. The role also encompasses re-energizing the Legacy Society through active engagement of existing members and identification and qualification to grow the society. The Senior Development Specialist will incorporate moves management across the portfolio and look for existing relationships (event attendance, conference volunteer / speaker, forum, division, society engagement) to support and advance their work. The successful individual will create and implement a personalized strategic stewardship report for key members of their portfolio that supports on-going donor engagement to continue the Foundation’s growth in annual, mid-level and legacy giving. This position requires collaboration with other staff across the Foundation and the organization, motivating and supporting peers while holding responsibility for successful mid-level, peer and legacy outcomes.
Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Director of Development, develop and implement fundraising plans that align with the organization’s overall strategic plan
- Actively lead the moves management process to grow and retain mid-level donors by qualifying annual prospects and stewarding existing mid-level donors
- Using your fundraising expertise and influence, actively direct peer to peer volunteer campaign committees to achieve their fundraising goals
- Work in partnership with both Director of Development and Data Integrity & Stewardship Specialist to achieve a re-energized Legacy Society by both activating existing donors and identifying annual donors who could be cultivated to join
- Support the Director of Development in research, proposal and other materials to cultivate and secure major multi-year gifts
- Participate in the development of stewardship and special events that celebrate and advance the donor through the fundraising lifecycle
- Generate development materials including impact stories, donor-focused communications, donor proposals and specific case statements in support of fundraising
Requirements
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proficient with individual solicitations, annual, mid-level and blended
- Demonstrated track record of securing gifts of at least $5K with a preference for gifts of $10-$25K
- Exceptional project management and time management skills; strong attention to details
- Ability to take the lead, influence and motivate volunteers to partner on fundraising goals
- Demonstrated experience working successfully within a highly collaborative and collegial organization
- Adapt to new situations and quickly problem solve
- Excellent understanding of development best practices
- Affinity for technical learning and application
Software Proficiencies
- MS Office Products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams)
- Must be proficient in creating executive level presentations
- Must be capable to utilize Excel for donor data, including creating / understanding basic equations (sums, percentages, etc)
- Personify (or similar database / customer relationship management tool)
- Smartsheet a plus

Educational & Work Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, non-profit management preferred or relevant discipline
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience of progressive and proven fundraising expertise with a focus on (at least one) mid-level donors, legacy giving or major gifts
- Experience with developing and strengthening relationships to support individual and organizational donors
Benefits
This role is hybrid, this role requires travel to the NY office 2 days a week after the initial training period.
Compensation Full-Time - $80,000- $95,000
