Candidate Profile
Verterra Energy is looking for a senior mechanical engineer who can combine a comprehensive understanding of the product development process with a passion for solving challenging problems in challenging environments. In this position, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will contribute to numerous phases of product design, development, prototyping, manufacturing and operational support. This position will play a critical part in Verterra Energy’s novel modular hydropower technology development process and will transition successful concepts through prototyping and into production.
The successful candidate will be responsible for component and subsystem mechanical design and engineering, analysis, validation and performance testing, systems integration, part prototyping, assembly, along with on-site installation, in-field commissioning and operation, and related activities. They will have practical experience with product development processes for mechanical systems and possess a curious and thoughtful mind with a passion for engineering, a strong “hands-on” mechanical aptitude and can quickly adapt to evolving timelines and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and testing of mechanical systems, sub-components and parts.
- Concept, design, and compare potential product architectures and use cases.
- Identify and perform critical engineering analyses and tests from concept evaluations to engineering performance characterization and acceptance testing.
- Consult with outside suppliers, vendors and service providers.
- Work with other engineers to generate product specifications, schedules and resource planning.
- Manage their assigned program schedules and deliverables.
Requirements
Must Have
- Applicant must be a US citizen
- BS or greater in Mechanical Engineering
- 7+ years of experience in a technology or hardware product development setting for mechanical systems.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
- Comfortable relying on strong first-principles engineering skill.
- Experience using CAD Software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar.
- Proficient with 3D solid modeling with the ability to produce and review mechanical engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with Matlab, LabView, MathCAD or similar applications.
- Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills.
- Practical experience with Finite Element Analysis applications.
Nice to Have
- Comfortable working with outside vendors and clients.
- Hands-on practical experience working in a shop or laboratory environment.
- Understanding of design for manufacturability (high/low volume).
- Program related technical writing reporting.
- CAD surface modeling.
