RMC is hiring a VMware System Administrator to support our customer in Indian Head, MD (Mainside). The selected applicant will work as part of an integrated team including system administrators, network engineers, service desk analysts, and other personnel on site.

  • Must be resourceful self-starter, flexible, proactive, solution-oriented and customer-oriented.
  • VMware Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, and administer VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi environments.
  • NSX & SDN Implementation: Design and manage VMware NSX deployments, including configuring virtual networks, security rules, and SDN-based solutions.
  • Containerization Support: Integrate and manage container technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Tanzu, or Docker) within the VMware ecosystem.
  • Performance & Capacity Optimization: Monitor and fine-tune VMware infrastructure for performance, resource utilization, and high availability.
  • System Automation: Leverage tools like PowerCLI, Ansible, or Terraform to automate virtual machine deployments and infrastructure tasks.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve complex issues across virtualized servers, storage, and networking layers.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Implement disaster recovery strategies using VMware SRM (Site Recovery Manager) and ensure backups are reliable.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Implement monitoring solutions to proactively track performance, security, and utilization across VMware environments.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for VMware environments, including designs, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work with IT, security, and application teams to design infrastructure solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Integrate VMware infrastructure with cloud infrastructure to support a hybrid environment.
  • Perform system hardening per DoD standards (STIGs) and generate necessary artifacts and mitigation statements.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation (e.g., PowerCLI, Python, or Ansible).
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (e.g., VLANs, firewalls, and load balancers).
  • Manage and administer Netapp Storage Area Networks (SAN/NFS), ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
  • Perform general storage maintenance to unclude firmware patching, system software upgrades, and rack modifications.
  • Understand provisioning concepts (thick/thin), storage protocols and migration best practices and methods to ensure system optimization.
  • Support Tier 3 escalated ticket troubleshooting.

Salary at RMC is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, a candidate's specific combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific requirements. The current salary range for this position will be $110,000 to $140,000 annually.

Requirements

  • Security Clearance: An Interim DoD Secret clearance is required to start. A Top Secret clearance will be required for this position. Applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • DoD 8570.01M IAT Level III certified with Continuing Education (CE) (CompTIA CASP+ CE, CISSP, or equivalent)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher certification.
  • Minimum of 5-6 years of experience supporting system administration for DoD or Federal Programs
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in VMware administration.
  • Experience in managing storage systems, SAN, and NAS in a virtualized environment.
  • Hands-on storage cluster management experience
  • Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and associated technologies.
  • Preferred: Netapp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) or higher.
