Senior Accountant
Location: Denver, CO (on-site)
Job type: Full-time
Salary range: $70,000 to $95,000 (commensurate with experience)
Position Summary:
The role of Senior Accountant is a full-time, in-office position within a structural and civil engineering consulting services company. This individual will assume responsibility for the preparation of financial reports aimed at monitoring the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other associated financial activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conducts project costing accounting and other related duties.
• Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets and departmental profit and loss statements.
• Maintains the general ledger, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
• Prepares budget and forecasting activities, including the Annual Budget preparation phase as well as monthly Budget vs Actual reporting to responsible parties and the collection of comments on variances.
• Communicates with other departments and/or divisions of the Company as needed to support their overall goals and objectives.
• Responds to inquiries and provides data analysis to department heads regarding financial results as well as any special reporting requests from Senior Management.
• Reconciles bank accounts monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
• Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections and billing.
• Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
• Provides assistance to outside auditors, gathering necessary account information and documents to perform the annual audit.
• Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
• Assists in maintaining and monitoring systems of controls to verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum of five years of responsible experience in an accounting capacity.
Key Competencies:
• Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
• Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
• Highly proficient with accounting software (Ajera), Excel.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
