Human Resources Generalist
Starting Salary: $63,011 - $75,613
This position reports to the Director of HR and Organizational Services and will support the HR department across key areas including Employee Relations, Recruitment and Onboarding, Performance Management, Workers’ Compensation and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). This role involves assisting with performance reviews, employee complaint investigations, advising on disciplinary actions, and supporting recruitment and onboarding processes. The HR Generalist will serve as a backup for other roles in HR department. All activities must be in compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity laws, HIPAA, ERISA and other regulations, as appropriate.
Responsibilities
· Employee Relation
- Assist in handling employee complaints and participate in investigations to ensure prompt, effective resolution in line with agency policies.
- Help resolve workplace conflicts by evaluating work-related concerns and collaborating with management to determine appropriate actions.
- Advise managers on disciplinary, grievance, and performance issues.
- Develop and conduct training sessions to enhance employee performance as needed.
- Conduct exit interviews, analyze trends, and suggest improvements in HR practices.
- Maintain confidentiality while interacting with staff at all levels
Recruitment and Onboarding:
- Support the Talent Acquisition Specialist with the full recruitment cycle, including job posting, screening, interviewing, and candidate selection.
- Serve as a backup for coordinating and conducting new hire orientations to promote a positive organizational culture.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of new hire paperwork.
- Review Personnel Action Forms (PAFs) and recommend compensation for new hires and promotions to the Director of HR and Organizational Services.
· Performance Management:
- Support the performance review process by coaching managers and supervisors on best practices.
- Oversee the annual and new hire performance review processes, ensuring consistent application of performance standards.
- Coach managers on effective feedback techniques and goal-settings for employees.
- Assist in identifying and implementing training programs for skill enhancement and career development.
- Collaborate with managers to develop and implement fair, achievable Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) for underperforming employees.
Workers’ Compensation:
- Monitor and manage workers' compensation cases, ensuring timely follow-up on open cases.
- Act as the liaison between employees and the Workers’ Compensation carrier.
- Evaluate workplace accidents and recommend strategies to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies, procedures, and regulations, and communicate updates to management.
- Stay informed of relevant safety and welfare regulations and assist with the annual OSHA 300A log.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):
- Support the development and implementation of DEI initiatives to create an inclusive workplace culture.
- Monitor diversity metrics and recommend strategies to improve representation and inclusivity.
- Facilitate diversity training programs and workshops for employees and managers.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business administration, or other related fields.
- 3-5 years of human resources experience, preferably in a generalist role.
- Solid understanding of HR functions and best practices.
- Experience in conducting workplace investigations and handling employee complaints.
- Experience in performance management including conducting performance reviews, developing improvement plans, and coaching managers on effective feedback.
- Experience with workers’ compensation processes, safety compliance and maintain OSHA logs.
- Experience with DEI program developmental and implementation, including facilitating training and workshops.
- Knowledge of employment laws and Workers’ Compensation laws.
- Ability to handle data with confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems

- Self-starter with excellent time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic and sense of integrity, trustworthiness, and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Creative in brainstorming and proposing new ideas and solutions to existing problems.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments and meet tight deadlines with conflicting priorities.
