Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Educational Specialist/Educational Therapist to join our team. This part-time position involves one-on-one instruction—both in person and online—for students in our homeschool and educational remediation programs. Our students have diverse learning profiles, including ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, and other specific learning challenges. This requires a personalized, creative, and flexible approach tailored to each individual's unique needs.

Initially, this role will serve as a temporary fill-in for a specialist goingon maternity leave in February. However, there is potential to build your own schedule as new clients join our program. This is an exciting opportunity to grow with us and make a meaningful impact on the lives of students with unique learning needs.

You will work with students across a range of abilities, from elementary school through college, helping them build confidence, develop skills, and achieve their goals.

  • Schedule: Approximately 18 student hours per week, Monday through Friday, with consistent hours adjusted for holidays and school breaks. Additional hours will be allocated for preparation and supervision.
  • Training: Training will begin immediately and will involve observation, partial session facilitation, and full session facilitation. You will be prepared to take over fully by February.

A typical day may include:

  • Driving to our office in Santa Monica, CA.
  • Conducting one-on-one sessions with students both in person and online (remote options depend on the in-person schedule).
  • Implementing evidence-based, individualized learning plans.
  • Writing and submitting weekly session progress notes.
  • Responding to emails
  • Collaborating with your supervisor in our open and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Implement individualized learning plans tailored to students’ strengths, challenges, and special interests.
  • Use evidence-based remediation programs, such as Orton-Gillingham and Visualizing and Verbalizing, to support academic growth.
  • Monitor student progress and provide detailed weekly progress notes and feedback to families.
  • Participate in weekly supervision meetings to collaborate and refine instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with families, teachers, and specialists to create a cohesive learning environment.
  • Adapt teaching approaches for a broad age range, from foundational skills to advanced topics like pre-algebra and college-level coursework.
  • Provide both in-person instruction in Santa Monica, CA, and virtual sessions for remote students

Compensation

  • Student Hours: $40–$50/hour, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Additional Duties: Compensation for preparation and supervision will be at or slightly above Santa Monica’s minimum wage.
  • Specialists working with students during travel, late nights, or weekends may qualify for additional incentives.
  • Opportunities to explore health insurance options may be available for those transitioning into a permanent position.

If you’re passionate about helping neurodiverse students succeed in a supportive and collaborative environment, we’d love to hear from you!

To Apply: Submit your cover letter and resume to [email protected].

Note: Candidates actively managing or planning to grow their own company are not eligible for this position.
